Toast Hawaii

in Breads, Breakfast, Main Dishes, Recipes

Toast Hawaii is an easy, delicious snack that you will find in German homes. It’s nothing more than canned pineapple, ham, and cheese on bread, but what a great combination. Germans eat their sandwiches open faced with a knife and fork and that’s how you should enjoy this treat.

deli ham slices, preferably not honey ham
canned pineapple rings
cheese slices, such as Swiss, Emmenthaler, gouda, or provolone
butter
sturdy bread slices

  1. Butter your bread slices and toast lightly in the toaster.
  2. Lay ham slices over the bread. Place a pineapple ring or two on the ham. Cover pineapple and ham with cheese. The cheese should completely cover the ham and bread.
  3. Broil for a few minutes until cheese is melted and ham and pineapple are heated through. You can also bake it at 350°F for about 10 minutes. Eat right away!
