One Bowl Brownies

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar 
2 eggs 
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour 
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon sea salt 
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or 1/4 cup chocolate chips

  1. Grease a square 8 x 8 pan with cooking spray and heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar together. Add the eggs, water, and vanilla and beat until smooth.
  3. Add the flour, cocoa, and salt and mix well until there are no lumps of cocoa. Stir in walnuts if using.
  4. Spread batter in pan and sprinkle over the chocolate chips, if using. Bake for about 25 – 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Cool before cutting into squares.
