New Water Dispenser at 10th St.

We recently replaced the reverse osmosis water dispenser at 10th St. with a brand new machine from Pure Water Works, a Traverse City company. According to Pure Water Works, this machine is very similar to the old one but it features several improvements.

The system, with an enclosed dispensing compartment, has post carbon treatment, ultra violet disinfection, and ultra violet ozone protection just ahead of the dispensing port. This puts a residual of ozone into the air to help disinfect the air in the dispenser and individual bottles. It disinfects and becomes pure oxygen within minutes. Ozone is the earth’s most powerful disinfection medium, producing no by-products.

“The system, as designed, provides a minimum 4 log reduction* of all virus and bacteria. That is a 99.9999% kill, said Bill Siegmund, managing director of Pure Water Works.

*How are log rates calculated? Scientists use a logarithmic scale. Log reduction stands for a 10-fold (or one decimal point) reduction in bacteria, meaning the disinfectant reduces the number of live bacteria by 90% for every step.
