Shetler's Amazing Graze Farm
The Shetler’s 40-cow grass-based dairy farm has been located in Kalkaska County since 1979. They have used sustainable farming methods since the early 70’s, using no antibiotics or growth hormones on their animals and no chemical fertilizers on their soil. Their farmland was certified organic for 6 years in the 90s. Although they are no longer certified, they continue to use the same organic practices.
They began bottling their milk in returnable glass bottles in 2000. The milk is pasteurized but not homogenized, thus the cream naturally separates and rises to the top of the milk. They deliver to about 40 stores in a 60-mile radius from the farm.
Oryana is the Shetler’s largest account where they offer Whole, 2% Reduced Fat, Fat-Free and Rich and Creamy Chocolate Milk, Heavy Cream, Half & Half, Buttermilk, Plain Yogurt Smoothie, Yogurt Fruit Smoothies (with organic fruit from Food for Thought), in addition to many flavors of their ice cream. They started making custard ice cream in 2009 and continue to perfect their recipes. Oryana also carries some Shetler meat products including pastured pork and ground beef.
The philosophy of the Shetler family is that healthy soil produces healthy food, which, in turn, produces healthy animals and people.
