Recycling at Oryana with BARC
Oryana is proud to have Bay Area Recycling for Charities (BARC), a non-profit organization serving the five counties that make up the Traverse Bay Area, as one of their drop off sites.
BARC focuses its efforts on converting recyclables into revenues not only to support itself and fund its expansion, but to achieve its ultimate goal of giving maximum donations to local charities. BARC offers easy, convenient options for maximizing the effect of your recycling, beginning with drop-off sites such as Oryana, and pick-up service. The profits from
the resources collected will be contributed to local charities.
Recycling Bin Etiquette
Oryana has bins, located by the east entrance, for plastic, glass, metal, and paper. Although BARC takes ALL plastics, not just # 1 and 2, we are asking that shoppers take advantage of other local recycling options since the plastics recycling has been so wildly popular. If you shop here on the weekends, you probably noticed the overflowing plastic bin. In an effort to curb the overabundance of plastics being dropped off here, we request that you only drop off #s 3 through 7 at the store and recycle the #1 and #2 plastic either through your own waste hauler or at a local drop-off site.
We pay for the recycling service and the bins are a service we provide for the community. Contrary to what you may think, though, BARC is not currently reaping a profit from the recycling of plastics due to market conditions, so if you are taking advantage of the bins but aren’t a member, consider becoming a member of Oryana. Also, please contact BARC directly if you have a large volume of styrofoam or recycling to be handled. (231-360-1231)
Thank you for helping us keep a tidy entrance to the store and for helping to keep plastics out of the landfill.
A Note About Recycling Etiquette: please make sure containers are rinsed and clean. And also we ask that customers take care not to dispose of garbage in the recyling bins, which means more (unpleasant) work for our wonderful BARC employees.
