Oryana's 40 Anniversary Celebration
Celebrating 40 Years
It was a gorgeous early summer day at the Grand Traverse Commons on June 8, 2013, when we celebrated 40 years in business as Michigan's largest food co-op. Nearly 1000 people showed up to help us commemorate our humble beginnings in 1973 when a group of health foodies formally started a cooperative in Traverse City.
Adriana's Cakery made this beautiful, delicious cake just for us.
Members dressed the part of groovy 1970s styles!
Grocer's Daughter Chocolate sampled some of their wares.
Long-time member and former organic farmer Julia Brabanec talked about her husband John who was a former board member. John and Julia were one of Oryana's first organic farmers.
There was paella aplenty for folks to eat.
Lots of great kids' activities including face painting.
One little fan of Oryana styling in her Oryana t-shirt and sunhat.
Joan was the winner of our vintage bike giveaway.
Lots of cool dogs wandering around.
Rachel styling with her face art.
More birthday cake.
Dancing to the Mark Sanders Band
It finally warmed up after a cool spring. Nice day to relax on the lawn.
The Mueller's enjoy a glass of "Oryale" our very own anniversary beer.
