Nature's Acres Farm
If you had to guess what the top selling items at Oryana are, what would your guesses be? Bananas? Milk? Kombucha? The top sellers do vary but you may be surprised to know that local chicken from Nature’s Acres Farm is one of the top five sellers. (The others are Lake St. Cafe soups, bananas, and eggs. )
Nature’s Acres Farm is located in Manton and sits on 40 beautiful rolling acres. In business since 1997, owners Don and Carol Alexander were raising pigs when friend and fellow farmer Chris Halpin of Halpin’s Land of Goshen suggested that they raise chickens for Oryana. Then when the Halpin’s got out of the egg business, Don stepped in and became Oryana’s supplier of local eggs.
What Don particularly enjoys about chicken and egg farming is working outdoors in the four seasons. What he finds challenging are the continuous demands of keeping operations clean and organized. His laying hens are Isa Browns, known for their exceptional production of large brown eggs. The meat birds are Hubbard White Mountain Broilers. Processing of these birds takes place right on the farm. All of Don’s birds are free-range and have 5 acres of pasture year-round.
In keeping with our strict purchasing guidelines, the Alexanders switched to GMO-free feed, guaranteeing the best, healthiest chicken and eggs in our area. You can purchase boneless chicken thighs, boneless breasts, and half and whole broilers at Oryana.
