Oryana Natural Foods Market

Education and Outreach

Education and Outreach

Although Oryana is just like a traditional grocery store in a lot of ways, we are more than just a place to shop for food. We are also a community resource. Our co-op offers cooking and educational classes on a variety of topics related to food and health. Our classes are always fun and informative and led by enthusiastic and knowlegeable instructors.

The co-op is also a sponsor and host of a number of community events and programming. We participate in or sponsor such events such as the Traverse City Film Festival, Bioneers, Green Cuisine, Smart Commute Week, and many other events.

Education/Outreach projects at a glance:

  • “Walk Talk Taste” store tours for newcomers and member-owners who want an in-depth overview of the store
  • Cooking and other classes
  • Health tours for diabetes, allergies, weight management, and heart health
  • For educators: a series of free interactive classes for grades 5 - 8 on topics related to food, farming, and nutrition. Download the brochure.
  • What’s for Dinner? - Demos of easy to prepare, healthful, and delicious recipes every Monday 4-6, Tuesday 12-2 and Friday 12-2. A variety of WFD recipes is available on the wall across from Customer Service

Our outreach and marketing efforts are supported by our outreach coordinator, Sandi McArthur, as well as our newsletter editor and social media specialist, Luise Bolleber. For more information about events and outreach please contact us at info@oryana.coop.
