Dr. Tim's Pet Food
Dr. Tim's Premium Pet Foods
Dr. Tim Hunt from Marquette, Michigan, is a veterinarian and accomplished musher. He understood his dogs' need for a food that promoted stamina, endurance and performance through proper digestion; a food that just made them feel good. Dissatisfied with other kibble diets on the market, he set out to formulate a food that replicated a natural, wild diet for his Alaskan Huskies.
Animal Protein Inclusion
Dogs and cats flourish on food that is heavily animal-protein based. On average, 87% of the protein in Dr. Tim’s food is derived from other animals. To our knowledge, this is the highest of any other company’s average. We include multiple animal sources to meet this number, including low-ash chicken meal, low-ash ocean herring meal, salmon meal, porcine plasma, chicken liver and dried whole egg. Remember: All proteins are not created equal.
High Levels of Omega-3 Fatty Acids (from ocean fish)
Omega-3 fatty acids are vital to an animal by aiding heart health, skin and coat health, performance and combating inflammation. Dr. Tim’s has a higher percentage of omega-3’s than most commercial pet foods currently on the market and these omega-3’s are completely sourced from ocean fish. Omega-3 fatty acids from ocean fish are much more beneficial to animals than plant-derived omega-3 fatty acids. In order to match what fish-derived omega-3 fatty acids can accomplish, you would need up to 8-10 times that amount of plant-derived omega-3 fatty acids. Remember: Omega-3 fatty acids from plants are noth the same as from ocean fish.
Varied Starch Sources
Including starches from various sources helps aid in digestion and reduce bloat and gas.
Thanks to the slow-cook process we utilize, Dr. Tim’s pet food boasts a 95% digestibility rate of starches. This results in easier digestion and better absorption of nutrition for the pet. Typically, one can feed 20% less of a Dr. Tim’s formula due to this high digestibility and production method.
Specialized Vitamin Premix
Unlike vitamin packets in most pet foods, our premix was specially designed to complement Dr. Tim’s formulations. All ingredients are sourced either in North America or Europe, by the DSM Corporation.
Probiotics and Prebiotics
Probiotics are applied to the kibble after extrusion to allow for maximum viability of the beneficial bacteria. The prebiotics used in our foods include chicory and beet pulp.
