Kids in the Kitchen -
Cooking Class just for Kids!

It’s summer, it’s time for lunch, and you are the chef! You will create yummy and good-for-you food that is easy, fun to make, and fun to share with family and friends. Each class features a beverage, soup, lunch dish, and dessert. Come hungry! You’ll get recipes to take home.
 

On the menu for Thursday, July 19, 11 - 1 pm
Healthy Soda Pop
Blender Gazpacho
Avocado White Bean Wrap
Healthy Banana Split

On the menu for Thursday, August 23, 11 - 1 pm
Fruity Water
Cold Peach Soup
Tortilla Pinwheels
Fruit Kabobs

These classes are appropriate for children ages 9 - 12. Sign your child up at Customer Service or call 947-0191. Cost: $20/members or $25 non-members. If your kids like to hang out in the kitchen, these classes are just the ticket!

Food Preservation Classes sponsored by Oryana

Oryana, in conjunction with Michigan State University Extension Service, is pleased to offer a 3-part series of food preservation classes. These classes will demystify the art of canning, freezing, and drying so that you can preserve the bounty of the season in your own kitchen.

Cost: All 3 for $20 or $10 each payable at class
Registration: please RSVP at Customer Service in person or by calling 947-0191

Digestive Health Series Part II Video

If you doubt that your gut has anything to do with your immune system or your overall state of health, then watch this enlightening, highly informative video featuring Randy Scwartz of Heart Lock Health Coaching, and Heather Campbell, MS, RD, of Shoreline Center for Healing, both in Traverse City.  The video is about 50 minutes long and well worth the time. Summer Produce at Oryana

With summer in full swing and farmers markets galore in every town, it's a great time to shop and eat local. Our produce department is getting more and more beautiful vegetables from our organic farmers so if you can't make it to your nearest farmers market, stop by here and enjoy a great selection of fresh veggies. Here is partial list of what we have right now:

  • heirloom tomatoes
  • red and swiss chard
  • red and green lettuce
  • summer squash and zucchini
  • curly and flatleaf parsley
  • red and green cabbage
  • fennel
  • bok choy, sen posai
  • broccoli
  • beets
  • red and green kale
